Description
What if the most exciting way to learn Spanish was to follow a traveller through Madrid's tapas bars, Seville's flamenco plazas, San Sebastián's bustling pintxo alleys, and Barcelona's sun-drenched boulevards — absorbing the language story by story? In Spanish Short Stories for Beginners, travel blogger Zara Hawthorne takes you on a three-week journey across Spain through 19 authentic travel blog chapters — each one a complete Spanish lesson hiding inside an adventure story. This is the Learning Through Travel Method™ — and it works because you're not memorising Spanish. You're living it.
Key Features
Is This Book Right For You?
This book is for you if you're a beginner or early intermediate learner (A2–B1) who finds traditional textbooks dry and forgettable. If you've tried apps, grammar tables, and flashcards and Spanish still doesn't feel real — this is a completely different approach. You follow a real traveller through real Spanish cities, absorbing the language the way it's actually spoken. No prior Spanish required. Written in international Spanish, so it's equally relevant whether you're heading to Spain, Latin America, or just want to connect with the world's second most spoken language.
What You'll Learn
Real-World Spanish From Day One
Read 19 chapters written in the practical Spanish that Zara actually uses on her travels — not sanitised textbook language. You'll encounter the words, phrases, and structures that matter in real conversations, not just on exam papers.
Vocabulary That Actually Sticks
Every chapter ends with a vocabulary list drawn directly from the story you just read — so the words are already anchored in context and memory. No random word lists, no flashcard cramming. Just natural, story-driven retention.
Grammar Without the Headache
Mini grammar lessons are written in Spanish — immersive by design, calibrated to A2–B1 so you can understand them without reaching for a dictionary. You're learning to think in Spanish, not just translate it.
A Complete Learning System in One Book
Stories, vocabulary, grammar lessons, and comprehension quizzes — everything you need is inside this one book. No separate grammar guides, no supplementary workbooks required. Study at your own pace, chapter by chapter.
What Readers Say
"A Great Choice
This book is a great choice for beginner-intermediate Spanish language learners. The writing is clear and encouraging, with easy to read text and a helpful glossary. I especially liked the bilingual format, allowing me to compare my translations after each chapter. The travel blog-style stories make learning engaging and fun, using everyday language instead of rigid textbook phrases. Each chapter explores different cities/cultures which I enjoyed learning about, and the grammar lessons and quizzes were especially helpful. It was an enjoyable learning experience that helped me build up my confidence and encouraged me to think in Spanish more naturally and effectively."

"Fun Spanish-English stories for beginners
This is a fun way to add variety to your Spanish language learning. The bilingual short stories are extracted from a travel blog which makes the text more engaging, especially for those who enjoy traveling.
Each chapter focuses on things to do and see in a city (Madrid, Barcelona, etc) and how to navigate it as a tourist. The text uses casual, every day language and feels less stilted than reading from textbooks. There are also mini grammar lessons to enhance your learning.
Even though the author advises to lean into the story's Spanish version and use the glossary, the English entry is readily available at the end of the chapter. However, the answer keys to the quizzes are found at the end of the book and would be more convenient if attached to its chapter."
